During the twisting process of ring-spun yarn, due to fiber movement, fibers repeatedly move from the inner layer to the outer layer and back, spiraling around the yarn's axis. The spiral radius alternately increases or decreases along the axis. At this time, longer fibers tend to move toward the yarn's core, while shorter fibers tend to move toward the outer layer. Finer fibers tend to move toward the yarn's core.

Finer fibers tend to be towards the yarn axis, and coarser fibers tend to be towards the outer layer. Fibers with a smaller initial modulus are mostly located on the outer layer, while fibers with a larger initial modulus are mostly located on the inner layer. By reasonably selecting fibers with different properties, yarns of different styles can be spun to suit different fabric uses or improve wearing performance.
Since polyester twisted yarn can freely choose the length, fineness, and cross-sectional shape of the fibers, outerwear fabrics are suitable to use slightly coarser and shorter synthetic fibers blended with cotton to increase the hairy texture on the yarn surface.
